Nearly every decent IPTV player is free, which surprises people. The apps make their money from a small paid tier or not at all \u2014 so you're rarely choosing between free and good. You're choosing between free apps that suit different devices.<\/p>\n

One thing to get straight first, because it causes more confusion than anything else in IPTV.<\/p>\n

\nA free player is not free channels<\/strong>
\nA player is an empty window. It costs nothing because it contains nothing \u2014 you supply the channels via a subscription login. Any app promising free content<\/em> is a different proposition entirely, and usually a worse one. Free player<\/strong> = normal and good. Free channels<\/strong> = the thing to be sceptical about.\n<\/div>\n

The genuinely free players worth using<\/h2>\n

IPTV Smarters Pro<\/strong> \u2014 free, no catch, and it runs on almost everything: Firestick, Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac. The sensible default for most people. Our Smarters guide<\/a> has the setup.<\/p>\n

OTT Navigator (free tier)<\/strong> \u2014 enormously customisable, with a generous free tier. Android-based devices.<\/p>\n

VLC<\/strong> \u2014 free and open source, plays a playlist instantly on a computer, but has no programme guide. Best as a testing tool, as our VLC guide<\/a> explains.<\/p>\n

Kodi<\/strong> \u2014 free and open source, handles IPTV through a built-in add-on. More setup, more flexibility.<\/p>\n

Where free runs out<\/h2>\n

Two platforms where it genuinely does:<\/p>\n

Apple devices.<\/strong> App Store rules mean the good IPTV players there tend to be small one-off purchases rather than free. It's a few pounds, once \u2014 worth knowing rather than hunting for a free option that mostly doesn't exist. Our Apple TV guide<\/a> covers it.<\/p>\n
