Downloader is the free app that makes a Fire TV Stick useful for IPTV. It fetches app files from the internet so you can install players that aren't in Amazon's store. Setting Downloader up (once)
Three steps, and you never repeat them:
- Install Downloader — search for it on the Fire TV home screen. It's free and in Amazon's store.
- Unlock Developer Options — Settings → My Fire TV → About, then click your device name seven times. Developer Options then appears in the My Fire TV menu.
- Allow installs — Developer Options → Install unknown apps → turn Downloader ON.
After that, installing any app is just: open Downloader, type a code, press Go, press Install.
When Downloader won't work
This is where most people actually need help, so here are the failures in order of how often they happen.
"App not installed" at the end. Almost always full storage. Fire Sticks ship with very little, and it fills fast. Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, delete a couple of things you don't use, and retry. Also delete the downloaded installer files when Downloader offers — people skip that prompt and lose hundreds of megabytes to it.
The code downloads nothing. Either the code is mistyped, or the file it pointed at has moved. Codes break over time; that's normal, not a scam. Get a current code from your provider rather than hunting forums.
Downloader can't reach the internet. Test another app. If the Fire Stick is online but Downloader isn't fetching, restart the stick — this clears it more often than you'd expect.
Install unknown apps has no Downloader entry. Older software calls it Apps from Unknown Sources. If it's a plain on/off toggle rather than a per-app list, turn it on.
Through 2025–26 Amazon began shipping newer Fire TV hardware on its own Vega OS, and some of those models don’t allow sideloading at all. No Developer Options, no Downloader installs, nothing — and no setting fixes it, because it’s removed rather than hidden.
Most Fire Sticks in use are the older Fire OS and work normally. But if you’ve just bought one and nothing in this guide works, that’s almost certainly why — rather than anything you’ve done wrong. Message support and they’ll suggest a route or a device that does work.
Using a code safely
A code is only a shortcut to a download address. Whoever controls it can repoint it, which means an unknown code is an instruction to install an unknown file on your device.
Two habits cover you completely:
- Only use codes from your provider or the app's official source. Not forum posts, not video comments.

Installing without a code at all

The code's job ends the moment the app is installed — it plays no part in your subscription. Open the player and log in with your Server URL, Username and Password, remembering the URL starts http:// and not https://.
